2018 saw Quinag conquer new frontiers and support its clients from the water, under the water, on ice, on snow, in the mountains, on trails and even occasionally on dry land in the comfort of media centres in enviable locations.
Quinag is always happiest when assisting its clients to deliver messages about their passion and commitment for some sporting endeavour, the outdoor environment, or involvement with a specific project, event or cause.
At the beginning of the year, Quinag completed an extended project with the Mountain Research Initiative (MRI), a global network for geologists and scientists and their groundbreaking research. Having completed a communication audit and devised a new communication strategy for the MRI during 2017, Quinag delivered the organisation’s new brand identity early in 2018.
Research is a key component of Alban Michon’s pioneering quests. The French explorer completed a solo skiing and scuba diving passage across the fabled Northwest Passage in the spring of 2018. The Passage connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans through the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Michon’s mission was not designed for self-promotion, rather it was at the service of the planet. Throughout the trip he took measurements and collected samples which would aid research and awareness about the ravages of climate change. Quinag helped amplify Michon’s message to an international audience, placing articles and interviews in major titles worldwide.
The ice is melting in the Northwest Passage. In the Ice Climbing World Tour, organised by the International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA), it continues to provide the field of play for the sport of ice climbing. In the competition arm, athletes from over 20 countries compete to be the world’s best ice climber across a challenging World Tour series covering three continents. Quinag helped raise interest in the sport, with an Olympic ambition, in new markets by promoting the World Tour to outdoor magazines across the world. The UIAA was also provided with comprehensive, data-driven media clipping reporting to support its fulfilment to sponsors and partners.
When the snow melts in the mountains, the trail running season gets going with athletes replacing their skies with running shoes. Members of the Quinag team designed the marketing plan for the Swiss Canyon Trail, a historic race which underwent a major rebrand in 2018 and hosted an ultra-distance race for the first time. Thanks to its new direction, and the communication activity which supported it, the event welcomed a record number of athletes.
On the water, Quinag was present at over ten international sailing events including the Monaco Swan One Design and Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup, concluding the year with the seminal Rolex Sydney Hobart where Quinag worked on international pitching and supported the delivery of photo and video requirements. A special memory from 2018 will be the 50th edition of the Rolex Middle Sea Race, for which Quinag guided the Royal Malta Yacht Club’s media programme. The golden anniversary event welcomed a record number of competitors.
Quinag continues to support Nautor’s Swan’s recently-launched Nations Trophy. Having developed the launch strategy and managed the media communications for the inaugural event, Quinag has since provided copywriting and media support for Nautor’s Mediterranean One-Design Series. In September 2018, Quinag developed a media trip to the biennial Rolex Swan Cup, inviting five international lifestyle journalists and supporting their onsite needs and with their coverage.
Raising the profile of sports outside of their traditional barriers is something at which Quinag is particularly skilled. This makes Quinag the natural communication partner for The Medal Maker. Currently in production, the film charts the lesons learnt and battles against adversity of the three main protagonists: Olympians, the Australian Mat Belcher and Chinese sailor Lijia Xu; along with the man who lent the film its title, Victor Kovalenko. Ukrainian by birth, Victor is a renowned sailing coach with unrivalled success at the Olympics. Filming is expected to start later in 2019. Quinag has already helped deliver an investor’s website, provided expert support in the finalisation of the film’s script and has a seat on the board of executive producers.
If your business is the outdoor environment, whether in the mountains, at sea, or some other remote location, Quinag is always interested finding new adventures with which to partner. Get in touch at giles@quinagcommunication.com
